Sony Playstation

Sony Playstation 2

Sony was originally going to make an add-on for the Super NES in the early 90's called Play Station. However, Sony was betrayed by Nintendo, who abandoned Sony and instead got help from Philips. However, Ken Kutagari wanted revenge (He literally publicly announced that he wanted to get back at Nintendo), convinced Sony to try to make a totally independent console, and thus the original Playstation was born. The Playstation was a huge hit, thanks to excellent Sony-style advertising and a good number of games. The Playstation would go on to becoming more popular than any other system of it's time, even systems twice, and even four times as powerful as it in the graphics department. Sony would see even greater success with the Playstation 2, which captured 70% of the market, crushing its competition, the Nintendo Gamecube and Microsoft Xbox. Sony has also entered the handheld market with the Playstation Portable, but the PSP failed to beat the DS, and now the PSP has about 30% of the handheld market, and the DS has about 70%. Sony is currently struggling with the Playstation 3, due to a hefty price, bad advertising, and a lack of must-have games. Slowly however, Sony's situation seems to be improving, but Sony is still far behind it's competitors.
