Sega realized the future of video games would rely on CD format games, so Sega tried getting a head start by creating an add-on for the Genesis/Mega Drive that used CD-based media. The result was a system with much higher-quality sound and an improved color palette. Unfortunately, the high price was too much for most Genesis/Mega Drive owners. Most Mega CD games were just Genesis/Mega Drive ports, but the Mega CD did have some great exclusive games. Most notably was Sonic CD, which many think was the best 2-D Sonic the Hedgehog game ever.
