By 1986, Atari sensed a revived video game industry, and began development of the Atari 7800, which Atari hoped would help Atari regain the 80% of the market they lost during the video game crash of 1983. Unfortunately, despite being backwards compatable with all 2600 games and being very affordable, Nintendo and Sega's dominance stopped the 7800 from reaching it's potential. That, and along with a lack of support from video game companies caused a huge lack of 7800 games. Atari finally discontinued in 1992 as it began to work on the Jaguar, which would end up flopping even worse than the 7800 did.
